Samarkand

Ibn Battuta described it as "one of the greatest and finest of cities, and most perfect of them in beauty". The city of Samarkand is one of the most important sites on the Silk Routes traversing Central Asia and was a crucible of cultures and religions.  It was captured by Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan and the home of Amir Timur.

Bukhara

The historic city of Bukhara has been a hub for traders and travellers since its foundation over 2,000 years ago. Bukhara lies on a crossroads of ancient trade routes that stretched across Central Asia, and became a centre not only for exchange between merchants but also for culture, scholarship and religious studies. It is the city from where Imam Bukhari originated and the burial place of many great saints.

Khiva

Khiva contains some of the best-preserved examples of Islamic architecture in Central Asia. The city prospered as a trade depot and fortress along the caravan routes that led across the Karakum.
